The old Vilán lighthouse began operating in 1854 as a fourth-order lighthouse, but its low power and poor location, due to the fact that the promontory where the current lighthouse is located caused it to have blind spots, led to the commissioning of the current lighthouse. Today, the octagonal-based tower is still preserved.
