The origin of this cemetery goes back to the wreck of the Royal Navy ship "Serpent" in 1890, in which only three of its 175 crew members survived, although the victims of the wreck of the Iris in 1983 were buried there earlier. In 1893, the victims of the Trinacria, both British ships that had been wrecked nearby, were also buried there. It is the only cemetery in the world that houses only shipwreck victims. It is located in a place of great beauty from where you can admire the rampant dune of Monte Branco. It is currently included in the European Route of Singular Cemeteries, declared a European Cultural Itinerary.
