PR-G 158 Route of the Costa da Morte

PR-G 158 Route of the Costa da Morte

This 21.8 km circular trail begins and ends at O Soberano Castle, offering panoramic ocean and mountain views.
The PR-G 158 is an approved circular route that starts and ends at Castelo do Soberano (Sovereign’s Castle). With a total length of 21.8 km, the first half runs along the coast, and the return trip runs inland. On the first half of the route we will walk along beaches, inlets and cliffs, contemplating the ferocity of the ocean. The second half runs through the mountains and we will enjoy the calming views of the Ría de Camariñas (Camariñas Estuary). There is a constant repertoire of panoramic views; just 2 km from the start, taking the turn-off to the Virxe do Monte hermitage, we can see the first one: the Ría de Camariñas and Cabo Vilán. The picturesque surroundings of the cape can be seen from different perspectives for several kilometres. From the Cementerio de los Ingleses (English Cemetery), where the castaways of the British ship HMS Serpent are buried, the path turns inland from the coast. On this part of the route, we can see striking rock formations in which we can find curious similarities. At the highest part of the route, from the O Monte das Seixas viewpoint, by simply turning our head we will get a magnificent view of the mouth of the river Grande, the Ría de Camariñas and Cabo Vilán. Arriving at Camariñas, we will cross cultivated land and small villages where we can see the eye-catching hórreos (raised granaries).
