CHURCH OF SAN XURXO

Discover a baroque jewel from the 18th century, with impressive vaults and neoclassical altarpieces. Its design is reminiscent of the famous architect Simón...
Baroque church (18th century) with a single nave, a wide transept with a groin vault in the central part and a barrel vault at the ends. The main chapel is also covered with a groin vault that gives access to a sacristy added in the 19th century. On the façade, the central body stands out for its volumetric decoration of split pediments and plaques with stone mouldings, reminiscent of the architect Simón Rodríguez, one of the greatest exponents of Galician Baroque architecture. It was founded thanks to the donation of Domingo Antonio Domínguez Canosa, an emigrant in Mexico. Inside, the Baroque and Neoclassical altarpieces stand out, including the main altarpiece of San Jorge (1788-1798), in Neoclassical style and sacramental typology attributed to the workshop of Xosé Ferreiro, a disciple of Xosé Gambino.
