VIRXE DO CARME CHAPEL

VIRXE DO CARME CHAPEL

A modest maritime chapel with an 18th century Baroque altarpiece dedicated to the protector of sailors. Its maritime procession on 16 July is a highlight.
Hermitage located in front of the port of Camariñas and of typical seafaring style. Its dimensions and construction are modest, including the belfry, which has a singular opening. It has a single nave, with a barrel vault and semicircular arches except in the main chapel, which has a groin vault. Its altarpiece in the Romay circle is Baroque in style from the early 18th century. It is dedicated to the Virgin of Carmel, protector of sailors. The feast of the Carmel is celebrated on 16th July, when the image of the Virgin, taken from the chapel for the occasion, is carried in a maritime procession across the waters of the estuary to Muxía.
