CHURCH OF SANTA MARÍA DE XAVIÑA

Discover a 12th century Romanesque jewel, with a single nave and apse, highlighting its triumphal arch and decoration inspired by the cathedral of Santiago d...
Romanesque church from the 12th century with a single nave and apse, with a barrel vault roof, which in the case of the nave was replaced by a gabled roof. Traces of Galician Romanesque can be found on both the north and south sides in the characteristic pentagonal lintel, inside in the vegetal capitals, as for example in the windows and the corbels of the apse. The semicircular triumphal arch stands out slightly, arched and supported by two pairs of columns, following the usual layout of the surroundings, which in this case leads to Santa Mariña, Leis and Cereixo. On the outside, the apse window shows a decoration with possible Romanesque influences from the Praterías of the cathedral of Santiago de Compostela due to the use of the tetralobular arch.
